Art: Portland gets Acupuncture Treatment, Literally

I stumbled upon a very cool art project today at http://www.adamkuby.com/Acupuncture.html. The artist collaborated with traditional Chinese medicine students to install huge 23 foot tall needles at various places in Portland, Oregon to help heal or restore balance to some of the city's ills. Many locations were simply photographs with a needle edited in, but an actual needle was installed at the south waterfront area. From adamkuby.com:

Kissame, a life-long Auburn resident, thought about the local video rental store that had closed its doors. "I saw a void in town that wasn't currently being filled," he said. Kissame decided to recreate the video rental store and theorized it would bring in traffic that would, in turn, flow into his massage practice.

A few facts about the essential fats

Michael, age 45, came into my office seeking help to reduce his blood cholesterol. He had just been diagnosed and was seeking an alternative treatment to avoid taking lipid lowering medications.

He told me he had started taking flax oil and hemp hearts which are polyunsaturated essential fatty acids when he read they were important for a healthy cardiovascular system.

I reminded Michael that 50 percent of people have normal cholesterol at the time of their heart attack and heart health isn’t just about cholesterol and saturated fats in the diet.
